Humble Beginning cake house

During my Christmas and New year holiday, I visited my aunt in Penang, Malaysia.

My aunt brought me to Straits Quey just to order a birthday cake for my cousin.

I asked my aunt how she know about this cake house, as Straits Quay is quite far from where she stay and not her usual shopping area. She said it was my uncle specifically wanted to order from this cake house.

When she told me the name of the shop, Humble Beginning while we were searching the shop, i was wondering, what kind of person would name their shop like this ? is this a new cake house, is not a franchise shop, that is why they named it so humbly ?

by the way, i am not a crazy fan of cake, i won't really make an effort to drive everywhere just to try all the cake from new cake house. 

So, here it is. We finally found this cake house, is at the ground floor at your right side if you enter from the front main door. A simple cake house with all the tulip decoration. I hope i am right, this is tulip, right ? Plain wooden floor, yellow coloured wall, some tulips on the ceiling with simple plain white tables and chairs. A very plain and humble design of a cake house.

This was our first time entering to this cake house. We actually quite confuse looking at so many different types of cakes in the display shelf  so, the staff gave us a pamphlet with multiple choices of flavour of cake they sold. For example, Cheesy Cheese, Chocolate orange, Coffee bliss, Mango cheese, Nutella Banana, Swiss Chocolate velvet, Peanut butter blueberry, Raspberry Cheese yogurt, Reese's Surprise, Royal Milk Tea and other flavours...

The paragraph that caught my attention is on the right below.

Mille Crepe

Twenty layers of crepes with a delightful combination of fresh cream and vanilla custard between each layer.

The top most layer is caramelized to give it a nice smoky sugary flavour.

Everything is hand-made and hand-layered, a true labour of love.

I never try this kind of cake before. I'm not sure whether other cake house selling the same thing, but for me, this is a new thing and is my first time seeing such cake.

The staff gave us each a small cake sample to taste, it was their most top and recommended French vanilla flavour. When the whole 20 layers cake entered my mouth, it was not like normal sponge like cake, you can feel each layer with the fresh cream with your tongue and sometime, the layer might slipped out too. The surprise was as you chewing all the crepe, the vanilla fresh cream will flow out between each layer and the taste of the combination is so delicious, mild sweet and i  love the texture of layers too. 

So,we decided to order a Large sized, standard size for 12 pieces, Oreo Cookies 'n' Cream flavour with M&M's topping, total is RM 92.

Each single slide they sell is around rm 9 or 10 + including tax..i'm not so sure about the price.

but, the inconvenient part is you must call to order the cake. 

the cake house is not accepting order as they explained their main kitchen is not in the cake house, but somewhere near Bayan Lepas, so to reduce confusion, customer need to call themselves atleast 2 days in advance and you can collect the cake at this cake house.

And Yes, this was the cake.

From the side, it looked quite awful .

but if you ignore it, i think should be alright.

Look at the layers !! all Hand- layered !!

My lovely little cousin was so excited when she heard that this is a 20 layered cake and she started to count each layer. When she was done counting, she so happy and said it out loud, it was 24 layered !!!

i'm not sure about it, maybe you can count for me.

but this is my little opinion, i feel it is more tasty when you cut it into small square like the size of a sample cake they will give you when you go to their shop which it is just nice to fit into your mouth. By this way, you can more appreciate the 20 layered crepes. 

Because what i noticed, the other family members will just start eating from middle layer or few layered or huge single layer by layer and they complained can't taste the special of this cake.

I'm  just a normal girl who like to share things that i thought is worth to be shared.
